Wellness Tips » Turn off the Television

Are you a couch potato? Americans spend hours a day on average in front of the TV. Obesity and Attention Deficit Disorder have been linked to too much television time.

Inactivity while sitting in front of the TV causes a reduction in overall metabolism. Eating food while you watch TV is a double negative. Studies published by the American Academy of Pediatrics show that children who watch more than two hours of television per day struggle more with aggressive behavioral problems. Trouble concentrating, sleep disturbances and increased alcohol consumption have been linked to too much TV.

Turn off the set. Have a conversation over dinner rather than watching Vanna White spell. Read a book in bed rather than falling asleep watching David Letterman.

If you keep a record of all you accomplish when not watching TV, you’ll be impressed with your own productivity.
