Dr. Colby Johnson
Chiropractor
Education
Prior to Dr. J’s formal chiropractic training, he studied both biology and business at BYU-Idaho. While there, Dr. J found his love for the human body and its capability for self healing.
Family Background
In 2009, Dr J, his wife, and soon to be daughter, moved to St Louis, Missouri to attend the premier Logan College of Chiropractic. Here Dr. J received a cutting edge education in Chiropractic healthcare, Physiotherapy, manual medicine, and Nutrition. After an intense and accelerated course of study, Dr. J became the first to simultaneously earn the degrees of Doctor of Chiropractic and Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance, graduating Magna Cum Laude (with high honors) in both degrees. Dr. J has supplemented his formal education with several certifications and studies a variety of adjusting and manual medicine techniques. At the top of this list is a certification in Active Release Techniques® (ART), a complete, full body soft tissue management system. (http://www.activerelease.com/index.asp?)
Dr. J is a member of both the American Chiropractic Association and the Colorado Chiropractic Association.
If you ask Dr. J where he called home before moving to Colorado you are sure to stump him. Without any military association, Dr. J has lived in Utah, California, Washington, Arizona, Chicago, Ohio, Idaho, Nebraska, Missouri and now Colorado. Dr. J enjoys the outdoors and Colorado with its sun, mountains, greenery, and seasons is quickly becoming his favorite.
Shortly after graduating from High School in Tucson, Arizona, Dr. J made a difficult, but foundational decision that would prove to shape the rest of his life. He chose to put everything in his life on hold, leave his friends and family and serve a 2 year full time Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the inner city and suburbs of Chicago, Dr. J had incredible and difficult experiences serving those in need, strengthening fellow Christian’s faith in Jesus Christ, and teaching non-Christians about Christ and his ministry. These experiences humbled Dr. J and taught him a love for others that no other experience could have. From this Dr. J grew the compassion and desire he now has to help all those he comes in contact with.
Shortly after returning from his mission Dr. J met an amazing woman. Tara was confident and inspiring and quickly got his attention. Even though they lived in two different states, after a chance meeting Tara fell madly in love with Dr. J and she called upon a mutual acquaintance to ensure Dr. J she was interested and expecting a call. After a long distance relationship, Dr. J and the newly deemed Mrs. J were married in the Bountiful, Utah Temple of LDS church.
Dr. J and Tara love being with friends and family in the outdoors whether it is camping, four wheeling, ATVing, hiking or biking (Dr. J may prefer some of the motor sports more than Tara). Outside of helping in the office, Tara spends her time caring for their two beautiful children, Eden and Axel, with number three on the way, and loves cooking, crafting, and spicing up their home. Dr. J and Tara are both heavily involved in their church and volunteer to serve in the youth ministries and in other capacities.
Why Chiropractic?
Unlike many who struggle to find their life’s calling, Dr. J knew he was going to become a chiropractor as early as High School. Dr. J’s best friend’s Dad was a chiropractor and had a significant influence in his life, from curing Dr. J from migraines at the age of 9 with one treatment to being a role model of what it means to put family first. Dr. Rick Osborne passed away June 28, 2012, just months before Dr. J graduated from chiropractic school. Dr. J dedicated his graduation in honor of Dr. Osborne’s memory and family.
Outside of the influence of Dr. Osborne, Dr. J has a profound love and respect for the human body and its amazing design and God given ability to heal. The World Health Organization recently reported that the United States was ranked 37th in the quality of health and the healthcare system when compared to other countries. That is damming evidence that we are not approaching healthcare in the right context and respecting our body’s innate ability to heal. Although Dr. J acknowledges that drugs and surgeries are, on occasion, required to restore health, they are grossly over used in our society. There is so much that can be done not only to relieve pain (whether it be low back pain, neck pain or headaches) or to improve your overall health and immune system by simply respecting the way the body is designed and honoring the structure of the body and its influence on the master nervous system that controls the function of the entire body through natural chiropractic and manual medicine.
